As the Dutch pension sector increasingly works in the cloud, almost all pension funds and administration organisations now rely on cloud environments. This shift brings clear advantages such as easier collaboration, flexibility, and scalability — but it also introduces risks. Limited control over data and growing dependence on specific countries and suppliers are raising important concerns across the industry.
This article explores the disadvantages of public cloud dependence, including storing pension data in US-based environments, and why many funds are now reconsidering their data strategies. It also outlines how a private cloud hosted in a Dutch data centre can support a cloud-first approach that aligns with each fund’s own (data) policy.
