When legacy systems reach their limits, standing still is not an option. For Swedbank Försäkring AB, the need was clear replace their legacy system with a new fund trading solution, without disrupting the customer experience.

With a fixed deadline set for spring 2025, the challenge was significant. The new solution needed to support the full trading chain, provide control across all steps, and ensure connectivity via Euroclear, where the majority of fund trades are executed.

The project, initiated in late 2024, was defined by both complexity and a demanding timeline. Swedbank Försäkring required a solution capable of managing both inbound and outbound fund flows, with different technical setups for each—file-based handling for inbound trades and fixed integration for outbound.

At the same time, the transition needed to be seamless for end customers. Trades had to continue as usual, with no disruption to service or experience.

The collaboration between Swedbank Försäkring, Lumera, and Euroclear was an important factor throughout the project. The work was characterised by confidence, flexibility, swiftness, and open dialogue. Today, a large number of fund trades are processed through Euroclear.

Replacing their legacy system has resulted in cost savings compared to the previous system, while enabling Swedbank Försäkring to maintain a consistent service towards its customers.

This project highlights the importance of clear objectives, structured delivery, and close collaboration when working under strict time constraints. Its ability to deliver a stable solution within a fixed timeline makes it a worthy Trophy of the Year 2025 nominee.
