In a significant shift within the insurance landscape, Folksam, in strategic collaboration with Lumera, has enhanced the approach to insurance policy migrations with their Fast Track initiative. Emerging from a clear need and a determined approach to depart from traditional methods, this project has established a new standard in migration efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Initiated in response to a directive from Finansinspektionen under the new pension fund directive IORP, Folksam was assigned a significant challenge: migrating 125,000 insurance policies to the correct legal entity by the end of 2024. This was not just a regulatory requirement but a strategic necessity to maintain Folksam's operational licensing as a pension fund, where any delay could result in penalties and competitive disadvantages.
Fast Track was developed as an innovative solution to overcome the limitations of previous methods, which were too slow and cumbersome for the urgent timeline. By redesigning the migration process, Folksam and Lumera introduced a streamlined workflow that allowed for the direct provision and processing of raw data into migration files. This approach significantly reduced dependencies and processing times through simplified data handling and enhanced automation capabilities.
The development of Fast Track began in December 2022 and, by May 2024, the first successful production migration was executed, demonstrating the effectiveness of this new approach. The collaboration between Folksam and Lumera was characterised by a shared commitment to innovation, agility, and a test-as-you-go approach that kept the project on schedule without compromising on accuracy or control.
The Fast Track initiative ensured compliance with the regulatory deadline and established a scalable model for future migrations.
